Welcome to CKMS

We are so excited to welcome you and your family to another incredible year at Chief Kanim Middle School. Whether you're returning or joining us for the first time, we’re glad you’re here and look forward to a year full of learning, growth, and connection.

To make it easier for families to access important information, our handbooks are now available online. Academic Dishonesty

The most common forms of academic dishonesty are cheating and plagiarism.

Cheating is behaving dishonestly to gain an unfair advantage over others. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Looking at another student’s test paper
  • Copying another student’s homework

Plagiarism is taking someone else’s ideas or writing and presenting them as your own. An example includes:

  • Copying and pasting information from the internet into an assignment without citations and submitting it as your own work

Cheating undermines the values of honesty, fairness, and responsibility that our school community upholds.

Steps to Address Cheating

1. Immediate Action
If a student is caught cheating, the teacher will stop the test or activity and confiscate any unauthorized materials.

2. Documentation
The teacher will document the incident, including details of the violation, and inform the student.

3. Parent/Guardian Notification
Parents or guardians will be notified of the incident and any resulting consequences.

4. Reflection Assignment
The student will complete a reflection assignment focused on academic integrity and the importance of honest work.

5. Follow-up Meeting
A meeting will be held with the teacher or school counselor.

Cheating is a serious violation of school expectations. These steps are designed to reinforce integrity, educate students, and maintain a fair learning environment for all.

Activity Bus

An activity bus is available after school that will drop students off at Cascade View Elementary and Timber Ridge Elementary School.

The activity bus arrives at CKMS at 4:35 p.m. to load students. The bus departs CKMS at 4:40 p.m. 

There is no activity bus on Fridays or during conference week in November.

Route:

  • Depart CKMS – 4:40 p.m.

  • Arrive at Cascade View Elementary – 4:57 p.m.

  • Arrive at Timber Ridge Elementary – 5:01 p.m.

Reminder: The activity bus is available only for student athletes and club participants. Students should go directly to their activity after school.

Apply for ADA Accommodation

ASB Fees

To be eligible for participation in extracurricular activities such as clubs and sports, students must purchase an annual ASB membership for $25.

ASB membership fees provide for:

  • Activity periods
  • Socials
  • Clubs
  • Co-curricular sports
  • Equipment
  • Awards
  • In-school activities
  • Grade level activities
  • Assemblies
  • Music events
  • Co-curricular transportation
  • Uniforms
  • Officials’ fees
  • Other student activities

Participation fees are waived for students enrolled in the free and reduced-priced meal program and/or the College Bound Scholarship program. Complete the required release form to give consent and receive financial assistance for extracurricular activities.

Associated Student Body (ASB)

The Associated Student Body (ASB) is involved in many activities, such as helping plan school events; sponsoring socials, evening events, school spirit days, and assemblies; and helping with celebration activities.

Elections for the board positions are held during the school year. Application procedures will be provided at the beginning of the election season. 

In order to run for office, students are expected to be passing all classes and must display appropriate behavior.
