S is for Spirit
S is for Spirit

The ASB and Leadership group, led by the amazing Ms. Rainwater, put on an amazing spirit assembly last week! The Winter Sports coaches spoke, there was a hula hoop challenge, a PVC stick challenge, a plunger challenge, and the coveted basketball shootout between each grade and staff. The staff took the W again! The spirit stick had been with the Seventh-Grade class but now has been passed to the Eighth Grade Class. Everyone had a fabulous time at the spirit assembly!

Tech Free Lunch
Tech Free Lunch

As part of our commitment to fostering meaningful connections, our sixth-grade class was a part of a tech-free lunchroom experiment last week. By tech-free, we mean no cell phones, school computers or other gaming devices. We also allowed students the opportunity to go outside and play.

You could tell the students did actually like the experiment. Their body language was different during lunch. They were leaning forward and engaging with others. The volume was also louder but that was pleasantly expected. Since it was successful, we will be scheduling future tech-free lunchroom times later this month.

The Story of Anne Frank

The story of Anne Frank has inspired millions of people around the world and is still relevant today. It is a story of discrimination and exclusion, but also one of hope and determination. Our CKMS Eighth-Grade students got to walk through a traveling educational exhibition on Monday and Tuesday through their Language Arts class.

Science Club makes pyrite!
Science Club makes pyrite!

Our Science Club got an incredible hands-on experience making pyrite! They started with two common elements: sulfur and iron and when combined, a chemical reaction occurred, and they made a compound. Under fire, they created a red-hot, molten piece of lava. Each student got to go home with their own piece of pyrite! It was an exciting day in Science Club!
