School Safety

In light of the national school violence events of the last few weeks, we want to review Chief Kanim’s safety and emergency preparedness plans:

·        Your children are our highest priority. Their safety is critical to our mission.

·        We have plans for all types of emergency situations, including intruder response procedures.

·        Although we are always alert, given the events of the last few weeks our schools are on heightened awareness.

·        We reinforce safety messages for children (e.g. personal safety information; emergency response drills – schools are conducting lockdown drills; training for staff and students).

·        We encourage parents to be vigilant in following standard school protocol when dropping off or picking their children up and when visiting.  This means stopping into the office to receive a visitor badge before going down our hallways.

·        We encourage parents to talk sensitively with their children about breaking news, helping them to understand that there are plans for their safety in place at school and at home.
